Natural Selection is not Evolution - Dr. Charles Jackson

Dr. Jackson explains the confusion of natural selection with evolution and why bacteria resistance to antibiotics, peppered moths and Darwin's finches do not explain the origin of new genetic information. Presentation at the MSU Origin Summit.

Dr. Charles Jackson

Dr J Dr. Charles Jackson has four degrees in science and education (EdD Sci Ed, Univ of VA, 1994; MS Enviro Bio, George Mason Univ; MEd Sci Ed, GMU; BS Bio, GMU). From 1980 to 2002, he taught secondary school sciences 11 years, then college biology and chemistry 6 years, and then teacher education classes 6 yrs in VA, MD, VT and TN. In 2003, Dr. Jackson founded Points of Origins Ministries and began teaching, speaking, and debating in creation science education. His emphasis has been in making the case for the literal interpretation of the Scriptural accounts as being both scientifically and historically true, and indeed eminently superior in their accuracy, compared to secular sources referencing the same topics. As a former youth pastor and schoolteacher, the work of “Dr. J” has been primarily focused toward Christian youth. Keenly interested in the liberation of Bible-believing college students, from the delusion that their faith has been refuted by modern scientific understandings, Dr. J has crusaded against evolutionary dogma on college campuses across the mainland United States, and also in Venezuela and Peru. He has presented creation science instruction to kindergarteners, to church congregations and youth groups, to both secular and Christian high school and college faculties, to student assemblies from elementary through high school, and to Christian groups on many college campuses. He has also defeated many professors and grad students in debates on topics of the evolutionary dogma, all to the glory of God, and to the truth of His Word. The secret to the success of Dr. J’s ministry has not merely been the god-given gifts of academic and communication skills, but an ultimate dependence upon the Spirit of God, while debating the issues in the public forum. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God.” James 1:5 “He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good.” Proverbs 16:20 “For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.” Luke 12:12

Finch beaks point to a Creator who Provides - Jean K. Lightner

6933-purple-finch
Finches have been identified as part of a created kind that has diversified considerably since the Flood of Noah’s time.1 They are well known for their variation in beak size and shape. These differences in beak morphology between various species of finches are associated with differences in diet. It appears that these differences have played an important role in allowing birds to fill numerous ecological niches around the world.

Design, Deluge, and Dilemma - Dr. Jonathan Sarfati

Seminar by Jonathan Sarfati
Cedar Park Christian School, Mountlake Terrace WA. May 31, 2013.

Description
- Widespread apostasy in young people—not because of lack of evidence, but lack of dissemination of the evidence.

- Jesus as Creator, as well as Kinsman-Redeemer, meaning that He must be our blood relative. This means that all humanity must come from Adam, also the ancestor of Jesus, the Last Adam. Adam's sin brought death, so Jesus brought Resurrection—Rom. 5 and 1 Cor. 15 make an explicit connection.

- Since death came through sin, fossil record must pre-date Adam. Explained by Genesis global Flood, which has other evidences.

- Design in nature, including micro-machines. Coded information stored on DNA.

- Goo-to-you evolution requires information increase, but what we see are sorting out already-existing information, natural selection culling information, and mutations corrupting information.

Northwest Creation Network now has their own Youtube channel at www.youtube.com/nwcreationnetwork

About the Speaker:
Dr. Jonathan Sarfati is a research scientist and speaker with Creation Ministries International (http://creation.com). He was born in Ararat, Australia in 1964. He moved to New Zealand as a child and later studied science at Victoria University of Wellington. He obtained a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry with two physics papers substituted (nuclear and condensed matter physics). His Ph.D. in Chemistry was awarded for a thesis entitled 'A Spectroscopic Study of some Chalcogenide Ring and Cage Molecules'. He has co-authored papers in mainstream scientific journals on high temperature superconductors and selenium-containing ring and cage-shaped molecules. He also had a co-authored paper on high-temperature superconductors published in Nature when he was 22.

Design, Information and The Word of God - Dr. Andy McIntosh

Edinburgh Creation Group | Did life in all its complex forms come about by random mutation and natural selection or is there strong evidence for intelligent design?

Dr. Andy C. McIntosh is a Professor (the highest teaching/research rank in U.K. university hierarchy) in Combustion Theory at Leeds University. He has written many books and lectured extensively in universities. He has mostly focused on the complexity and design inferences illustrated by flight capabilities of organisms. In addtion, he works on how many kinds of insects such as bombardier beetles can support the creation model.

Edinburgh Creation Group is an active forum where scientifically minded people meet to discuss evidence supporting the biblical account of creation.

Design of the Human Visual System - Dr. Randy Guliuzza

The human eye is so highly specialized that Charles Darwin mused whether his theory was not preposterous in light of the eye's complexity. Darwin should have listened to his instincts, because scientific discoveries in the last 130 years have shown that the human visual system is so complex it is absurd to attribute its development to random natural processes. This discussion will cover several of the fascinating design features of the visual system, including microscopic and gross critical interaction between visual, memory and motor centers of the brain. The inescapable conclusion will be that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Dr. Randy Guliuzza  is a captivating speaker who presents well-documented and often humorous scientific and biblical talks to audiences of all ages. He has represented ICR in several scientific debates at secular universities and in other forums. Dr. Guliuzza has a B.S. in Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, a B.A. in theology from Moody Bible Institute, an M.D. from the University of Minnesota, and a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University. Dr. Guliuzza served nine years in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps and is a registered Professional Engineer. In 2008, he retired as Lt. Col. from the U.S. Air Force, where he served as Flight Surgeon and Chief of Aerospace Medicine. He is the author of Made in His Image: Examining the complexities of the human body

Presentation Titles & DescriptionsThe Human Visual System
The human eye is so highly specialized that Charles Darwin mused whether his theory was not preposterous in light of the eye’s complexity. The Reproductive System: Fascinating Evidence for Design-Part I (Dad’s Role)
This presentation will cover rarely discussed details of human reproduction that form irrefutable arguments for a supernaturally designed system.

All topics are covered in a tasteful manner and there is no discussion of external anatomy. Rather, the listener is put into the seat of a typical medical student taking in the detailed--though thoroughly explained--process of reproductive physiology and microscopic anatomy.

The Reproductive System: Fascinating Evidence for Design-Part II (Mom’s Role)
Topics will include (1) how mother’s immune system is controlled by the baby to prevent its own rejection, (2) how random genetic mutations could never produce the intricate, coordinated physiology necessary for fertilization and (3) how baby’s hormones maintain pregnancy, control maternal metabolism and prime the mother for partuition.
The content of both talks is strictly scientific, but the inescapable conclusions give God all the glory, showing that we are truly fearfully and wonderfully made.

Genesis and Science Support Programmed Filling, Not Natural Selection - Dr. Randy Guliuzza

Genesis and Science
Support Programmed Filling, Not Natural Selection
By Randy J. Guliuzza, P.E., M.D.

Description:
We will learn about an important and liberating new way of looking at organisms and their environment: "Programmed Filling" - a Biblically consistent and scientifically superior paradigm that explains exactly what happens at the organism-environment interface. Three points of departure mark the old and new understanding:

1) natural selection exists only as a misleading mental construct;
2) usage that acknowledges it in any way greatly dishonors the Lord;
3) programmed filling - a God-ordained, organism-centered, purpose-driven mechanism - is reality.

By recognizing the explanatory power of programmed filling, believers will actually have a communicable and scientifically accurate pushback to natural selection that is just as enlightening and easy to understand.

This seminar was given April 19, 2012 to the Creation Association of Puget Sound, Bellevue Church of Christ, WA.

Why is Evolutionary 'Just-So' Story-Telling Tolerated? - 15 Questions for Evolutionists #12

15 Questions for Evolutionists -- Question 12
Why is evolutionary ‘just-so’ story-telling tolerated? Evolutionists often use flexible story-telling to ‘explain’ observations contrary to evolutionary theory. NAS(USA) member Dr Philip Skell wrote, “Darwinian explanations for such things are often too supple: Natural selection makes humans self-centered and aggressive—except when it makes them altruistic and peaceable. Or natural selection produces virile men who eagerly spread their seed—except when it prefers men who are faithful protectors and providers. When an explanation is so supple that it can explain any behavior, it is difficult to test it experimentally, much less use it as a catalyst for scientific discovery.”8 See: ‘Just-so’ stories of sex and family life.

Why is Natural Selection Taught as Evolution? - 15 Questions for Evolutionists #4

Why is natural selection, a principle recognized by creationists, taught as 'evolution', as if it explains the origin of the diversity of life? By definition it is a selective process (selecting from already existing information), so is not a creative process. It might explain the survival of the fittest (why certain genes benefit creatures more in certain environments), but not the arrival of the fittest (where the genes and creatures came from in the first place). The death of individuals not adapted to an environment and the survival of those that are suited does not explain the origin of the traits that make an organism adapted to an environment. E.g., how do minor back-and-forth variations in finch beaks explain the origin of beaks or finches? How does natural selection explain goo-to-you evolution? See: Evolutionist Dr John Endler's refreshing clarity about 'natural selection' has been largely ignored.

Question 4 in CMI's '15 Questions for Evolutionists' flyer challenges evolutionists to explain how natural selection can be the creative process evolutionists require. Natural selection explains the survival of the fittest, adaptation and variation within a kind leading to the great diversity of living things. It fits well with the biblical notion that God created life with the necessary programming to live in a variety of environments. Richard Fangrad and Calvin Smith discuss the question and the attempts to answer it.
