The Non-Mythical Adam and Eve - Dr. Rob Carter

Seminar by Dr. Robert Carter
September 15, 2014
The Expedition Christian Church
Mountlake Terrace, WA

Description:
Many people mistakenly believe science has proven that Adam and Eve never existed. In this presentation, Dr. Carter digs into the science of genetics, using the most up-to-date information, to show how Adam and Eve are completely consistent with the data. Instead of discrediting Genesis, modern science affirms that we came from just two ancestors who lived only a few thousand years ago.

Article by Robert Carter: "The Non-Mythical Adam and Eve – A Refutation of Francis Collins and the Biologos Institute"

About the Speaker:
Dr Carter was converted to Christ at an early age, but did not know what to do with the theory of evolution. He always knew what he wanted to believe, but had no way to express what he was thinking and no evidence to support his views. In his freshman year of college, he was exposed to the information for creation for the first time and soon after adopted it as his modus operandi. He says he felt a tremendous joy when he realized his science and his religion were no longer at odds. This joy (and, he says, Creation magazine and the Journal of Creation) enabled him to get through the in-depth evolutionary training of his undergraduate and graduate programs with his faith intact.

He obtained a BS in Applied Biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. He then spent four years teaching high school biology, chemistry, physics and electronics before going to the University of Miami to obtain his PhD in Marine Biology. He successfully completed this program in 2003 with a dissertation on “Cnidarian Fluorescent Proteins.” While in Miami, he studied the genetics of pigmentation in corals and other invertebrates, designed and built an aquaculture facility for Caribbean corals, performed well over 500 SCUBA dives, many of them at night, and licensed a spin-off product of his research (a patented fluorescent protein) to a biotech company. See longer version of bio (http://www.creation.com/article/4844).

He is currently a senior scientist and speaker for Creation Ministries International-USA (http://www.creation.com/) in Atlanta, Georgia, where he lives with his wife, Leanne, and children and is currently researching human genetics and other issues related to biblical creation.

This seminar was recorded by the NW Creation Network during the September 2014 meeting of the Creation Association of Puget Sound (http://caps.nwcreation.net/) at The Expedition Christian Church (http://www.expeditionchristianchurch....). CAPS organizes numerous educational programs each year, which feature presentations by speakers, scientists, and authors who are dedicated to defending the Bible and the Christian worldview. These events are open to the public and free to attend.

Microbiologist Loses Faith In Evolution (Dr. Rick Oliver)

Rick Oliver explains his background as a micro-biologist and evolutionist and how he eventually came to Christ.

Rick Oliver has a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, Fullerton and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Biology from the University of California, Irvine. He is a member of the American Federation of Herpetoculturalists, the California Science Teachers Association, and the New York Academy of Science. He is now the Founder/CEO of Confound the Wise Ministries.

Read Dr. Oliver's blog at ConfoundTheWise.org.

J. Richard Oliver, Ph.D. CEO and Founder, Confound The Wise Ministries
Dr. Richard “Rick” Oliver is currently the CEO and founder of Confound the Wise Ministries based in Tonto Basin Arizona. Confound the Wise Ministries is a unique Creation based Ministry dedicated to spreading the unerring Word of God through science education. In June, 2008 Dr. Oliver stepped down from his full time position as superintendent of the Mount Hermon Outdoor Science School which he founded.

Dr. Oliver served in this position for over 15 years at Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center located in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains in California. He designed and developed a science curriculum based on the California state science framework for middle school students (grades 5-8). The Creation centered experiential learning based curriculum not only allowed students to become more knowledgeable about their environment, but developed an appreciation, respect and responsibility for it as well.

Dr. Oliver earned his undergraduate degree in science at the California State University in Fullerton California. He later was granted his M.S. in life science with a minor in geology and went on to earn a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology with an emphasis in herpetology from the University of California. Dr. Oliver has participated in numerous scientific research projects over the course of his academic career including working with the Veterans Administration Hospital on extensive research on rattlesnake venom, major research projects involving both biology and geology at the Grand Canyon in Arizona and at the volcano at Mount Saint Helens in Washington State as well as several Dinosaur research projects in Wyoming and Montana.

Dr. Oliver became a Christian in 1987 and began lecturing on science regarding the origin of life from a Creationist point of view. As a gifted communicator affectionately known as “Ranger Rick” by both his colleagues and students his enthusiasm and knowledge of both biology and geology make him a popular speaker throughout the country.

Dr. Oliver is an adjunct faculty member a several colleges, both secular and Christian and has been invited to speak at churches and schools both in the United States and overseas.Dr. Oliver’s professional organizations include:

  • California Science Teachers Association
  • American Federation of Herpetoculturalists
  • California Academy of Sciences

The Dictionary of Life | Origins with Dr. Paul A. Nelson

Dr. Nelson breaks down some of the amazingly complex functions of the most simple cells. The simplest cell is to complex to have come from non-life or evolved.

Paul Nelson

Ph.D. Philosophy, University of Chicago

Paul Nelson is currently a Fellow of the Discovery Institute and Adjunct Professor in the MA Program in Science & Religion at Biola University. Paul’s articles have appeared in Biology & Philosophy, Zygon, Rhetoric and Public Affairs, and Touchstone, and chapters in the anthologies Mere Creation, Signs of Intelligence, Intelligent Design Creationism and Its Critics, and Darwin, Design, and Public Education. His forthcoming monograph, On Common Descent, critically evaluates the theory of common descent. Paul is a member of the Society for Developmental Biology (SDB) and the International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology (ISHPSSB). Paul is married to Suzanne Nelson, M.D., M.P.H., an assistant professor of pediatrics at Northwestern University; they reside in Glenview, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) with their two daughters, Hannah (14) and Olivia (12).
