At the 2014 Creation Conference held February 21-23 at Cliffwood Presbyterian Church, Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson of the Institute for Creation Research gave a series of talks defending the literal reading of the creation account in Genesis. This is the first talk entitled, "The Lost Treasures of Genesis."

The gospel message is founded on the book of Genesis. Without a keen understanding of these beginnings, much of the majesty and wonder of the "good News" is lost in a casual reading. Indeed, the treasures of what God did on our behalf can get lost amid the sweep of history.

Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson has provided a keen analysis of the "map" that God has structured in the lives and events recorded in the early chapters of Genesis. Like any set of clues, the details are very important. Each word and event becomes a literary brick in the path that leads inexorably to the "exceedingly great and precious promises" (2 Peter 1:4) of God's "inheritance...that does not fade away" (1 Peter 1:4).

Name: Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson
Title: Deputy Director for Life Sciences
Specialty: Biology, Stem Cells
After receiving his Ph.D. in cell and developmental biology from Harvard Medical School in 2009, Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson joined ICR as a Research Associate. While at Harvard, he assisted in adult stem cell research, specifically on the role of Vitamin D in regulating blood stem cells. Dr. Jeanson has a B.S. in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, where his research efforts involved working with single-cell algae to decipher molecular mechanisms of plant function. Additionally, he has submitted testimony to the Massachusetts governing bodies in opposition to human embryonic stem cell research and has been a panelist at the Massachusetts Citizens for Life convention. As Deputy Director for Life Sciences, Dr. Jeanson’s current research at ICR involves the investigation of molecular mechanisms of biological change from a young-earth perspective. He regularly contributes research articles to ICR's monthly magazine Acts & Facts and is the author of The Lost Treasures of Genesis.

Already Gone - Why your kids will quit #church and what you can do to stop it - Ken Ham

 Already Gone

Why your kids will quit church and what you can do to stop it

Written by Britt Beemer , Todd Hillard and Ken Ham

The next generation is calling it quits on the traditional church. And it’s not just happening on the nominal fringe; it’s happening at the core of the faith!  This powerful book reveals shocking trends and offers wisdom on how to win back our families, our churches, and our world!

Statistics reveal a huge disconnect taking place between our children and their church experience

Nationwide polls and denominational reports are showing that the next generation is calling it quits on the traditional church. And it’s not just happening on the nominal fringe; it’s happening at the core of the faith.
In the first scientific study of its kind, the “Beemer Report” reveals startling facts discovered through 20,000 phone calls and detailed surveys of a thousand 20–29 year olds who used to attend evangelical churches on a regular basis, but have since left it behind.
The results are shocking:
  • Those who faithfully attend Sunday School are more likely to leave the church than those who do not.
  • Those who regularly attend Sunday School are more likely to believe that the Bible is less true.
  • Those who regularly attend Sunday School are actually more likely to defend that abortion and gay marriage should be legal.
  • Those who regularly attend Sunday School are actually more likely to defend premarital sex.
In this powerful book, popular author Ken Ham and consumer behavior research/analyst C. Britt Beemer combine to reveal trends that must be dealt with now . . . before we lose another generation!
The trends are frightening, but Already Gone shows how to win back our families, our churches, and our world!

Battlecry for the Next Generation - Mike Riddle

Seminar by Mike Riddle.
First Baptist Church, Redmond, WA. July 2011

We apologize for the poor quality recording, but the content of the talk is very good. We will try to replace the recording in the future if possible.

Description:
Help safeguard your teens from being part of the 70% of our youth who walk away from the church after high school.

As we grow and equip the next generation of believers, we must remember, they will become the youth leaders, small group leaders, church planters, pastors, and Christian school teachers, who will, in turn, begin equipping the next generation. David Barton, founder and president of WallBuilders, a national pro-family organization that presents America's forgotten history and heroes, states the importance of equipping our youth.

"It [the Bible] is the story of history that God uses the younger generation to revive and restore a nation that has fallen away (David, Daniel, Samuel, etc.). Therefore, the enemy often works to destroy youth before they can fulfill that destiny (e.g. the eradication of children by Pharaoh or Herod to destroy Moses and Jesus). It is no surprise, then, that today's cultural terrorists have targeted youth for spiritual destruction (through music, entertainment, education, technology, etc.)."

Mike's talk "Battle Cry for the Next Generation" is a wake-up call for parents. It discusses America's biblical heritage, how we have abandoned that heritage, and how we can turn the situation around. In this seminar, Mike clearly lays out the situation, the mission, and the plan of execution. The goal of the seminar is to:

1) Inform Christians about the state of American education.
2) Provide a strategy, a direction to advance, and a solution.
3) Discuss how to support the vision of training and equipping the next generation.

"The Bible tells us there is no retirement in war! In war, the time is crucial, the cost is great, but the cause is worth it! Our nation is in grave danger. The battle wages for the hearts and minds of the next generation." Kay Arthur, Battle Cry For A Generation, 2005.

About the Speaker:
Mike Riddle is the president of Creation Training Initiative (http://www.creationtraining.org/) and currently travels around the country teaching and delivering seminars on the Biblical and scientific truths of creation. He is also an adjunct apologetics speaker for Answers in Genesis. He holds a degree in mathematics and a graduate degree in education and has been involved in creation ministry for more than thirty years. Prior to getting involved in creation ministry, Mike was a captain in the U.S. Marines and a national champion in track and field.

The Greatest Hoax on Earth by Dr. Jonathan Sarfati

HAS DAWKINS OVERREACHED? COULD HIS CHALLENGE BE A HUGE OPPORTUNITY FOR CHRISTIANS?

History may show that Dawkins has done the church a favour, by waking it out of its complacency on the creation/evolution issue. By focusing the battle right at the foundations, and by putting all the evidence he can muster on display, he has provided a chance for Christians to see via this response that they do not have to keep retreating on this issue, for fear of being seen to contradict ‘the facts of science’…

The Greatest Hoax on Earth? meets Dawkins’ The Greatest Show on Earth head-on. Dr Sarfati firmly and comprehensively answers Dawkins’ challenge, chapter after chapter, covering a vast range of disciplines in his trademark crisp, clear style. He convincingly shows, for those with ears to hear, that to believe the Bible’s account of Creation/Fall/Redemption straightforwardly not only does not commit intellectual suicide, it is if anything the intellectually superior position.
In the process, he also ably exposes the types of deceitful tactics utilized in many anti-creation arguments. (Hence the ‘hoax’ in the Sarfati book’s title; CMI of course does not claim that people teach and promote evolution while disbelieving it.)

To the Christian we say—if your creationist fare has been by people with questionable qualifications and a flair for self-promotion using dubious arguments, you will find this book in another league altogether. It is written by arguably the finest mind in creation/evolution and Bible-science apologetics today—backed by a superb team of qualified and experienced colleagues.

To the not-yet-believer we say—if you have been exposed to the sorts of arguments that Dawkins musters, you owe it to yourself to read this book (not distorted representations of its contents).
Read it—give it away in bulk—spread this link—help fight the battle where it rages the fiercest.

Genesis: Fables or Foundation of Our Faith - Chris Ashcraft

Seminar by Chris Ashcraft M.S., M.Ed., MTMS
Seattle Creation Conference, September 2013
Woodin Valley Baptist Church, Bothell WA.

Description:

The first few books of Genesis are indispensable to the Christian Worldview in setting forth important doctrinal definitions and providing critical details on the history of the early Earth. However, due largely to the conflicting teachings naturalistic science many in the Church question this important historical record. Does the bible support billions of years? Was the flood of Noah a global event? This talk is a defense of the literal Biblical worldview, and offers encouragement for Christians to trust in the Bible as authoritative.

About the Speaker:

Chris Ashcraft is a Christian educator, creation scientist, and speaker employed as high school science teacher at Cedar Park Christian Schools where he provides instruction in Biology, Chemistry, Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Life Science.

Formerly, Chris was a research technician, specialized in plant tissue culture, and genetic transformation technology. He served as a research technician at the Cotton Fiber Production Laboratory at Texas Tech University, he then provided technical support at the Plant Transformation Facility at Oklahoma State University, and lastly was employed as the Plant Transformation Specialist for EDEN Bioscience in Bothell Washington .

He obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology from Wayland Baptist University in 1989, a Master of Science in biology from Texas Tech University in 1996, a Master of Education from the University of Washington in 2008, and a Master is Teaching Math and Science from Seattle Pacific University in 2012.

Chris moved from research science into the teaching profession to serve God in Christian education. His decision was motivated by the impact that secular science is having on people of faith. Today, close to 50% of Christian students lose their belief in God while attending secular schools. This tendency could be lessened if the Church was better equipped to defend the authority of Biblical teachings (1 Peter 3:15). To be prepared for these challenges, it is important that Churches provide regular educational programs on creation and other Bible apologetics.

Why Genesis Matters - Dr. Jason Lisle

This presentation shows the central importance of the history in Genesis to major Christian doctrines, and shows how the decline in society is connected to the increasing rejection of biblical creation. The defense of a literal, historical Genesis is absolutely crucial to the success of the Church in its call to make disciples of all nations. Topics include the age of the Earth and the origin of death and suffering.

Introducing ICR's New Director of Research: Jason Lisle, Ph.D.

Dr. Jason Lisle approaches science from the perspective that God’s Word is true—“the Bible teaches us the truth about origins, and good science confirms what the Bible teaches.” Dr. Lisle, a Christian astrophysicist who writes and speaks on various topics relating to science and the defense of the Christian faith, graduated summa cum laude from Ohio Wesleyan University, where he double-majored in physics and astronomy and minored in mathematics. He then earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in astrophysics at the University of Colorado.

Dr. Lisle specialized in solar astrophysics and has made a number of scientific discoveries regarding the solar photosphere, including the detection of giant cell boundaries using the SOHO spacecraft. He also does theoretical research and has contributed to the field of general relativity. His areas of interest in creation studies are in developing models of cosmology and stellar aging.
Since completion of his research at the University of Colorado, Dr. Lisle also began working in full-time apologetics ministry, specializing in the defense of Genesis. He has written a number of articles and books on the topic. His book The Ultimate Proof of Creation demonstrates that biblical creation is the only logical possibility for origins. Dr. Lisle was instrumental in developing the planetarium at the Creation Museum in Kentucky, and he wrote and directed popular planetarium shows, including “The Created Cosmos.”

Dr. Lisle wrote his book Discerning Truth: Exposing Errors in Evolutionary Arguments because he believes Christians often face “criticism from evolutionists for their belief in God and His glorious creation.” Lisle says, “Creationists need to be able to recognize and refute evolutionist arguments, and to do so in a way that both honors God and lines up with the truth of His Word. The role of logic, the study of correct reasoning, is becoming a vanishing skill in our society.” Dr. Lisle hopes that he can help believers defend their faith “in the face of adversity.”

The Stargazer’s Guide to the Night Sky taps into Dr. Lisle’s expertise in astrophysics and his understanding of the galaxies. Astronomy and physics have always been areas of special interest. One of his favorite hobbies is viewing the night sky through a telescope. His other books include Are ETs & UFOs Real? and Big Problems with the Big Bang. While most astronomers and astrophysicists present the Big Bang theory as an explanation for our origins, Dr. Lisle says, “They are simply wrong.” Naturalists present their “alternative model to explain the universe naturalistically, and that goes against what the Bible teaches.”

For over 40 years ICR has maintained its commitment to research and biblical truth, drawing talented research scientists like Dr. Jason Lisle from around the country to contribute their skills to our ministry efforts. Dr. Lisle will focus his research efforts in astrophysics, as well as lead ICR’s gifted team of scientists who continue to investigate and demonstrate the evidence for creation. The Institute for Creation Research welcomes Dr. Jason Lisle!

Antibiblical Teachings of BioLogos - Theistic Evolution - by Ken Ham

Watch video from Ken Ham’s recent talk, where he exposes some of the antibiblical teaching of BioLogos.

Ham provides video clips where supposed Christian scholars Peter Enns, N.T. Wright, Greg Boyd and others say that we should ignore the first few chapters of Genesis in order to "reconcile faith with science." And they all claim Adam and Eve were not real people.

They obviously reject the authority of scripture, reject good science and are very dangerous to the Christian community.

Millions of Years - The Idea's Origin and Impact on the Church - Dr. Terry Mortenson

Presented December 12, 2008 at Rocky Mountain Creation Fellowship.

Dr. Mortenson's talk is titled: Millions of Years: the Idea's Origin and Impact on the Church. Where did the Church's belief in millions of years come from? This historical survey will explain how the idea of millions of years became dominant in geology and the resulting catastrophic damage to the Church and to the proclamation of the gospel. It is a sad state of affairs that most Christian churches today accept millions of years that is taught by man and refuse to believe in the thousands of years as taught by Scripture.

This video has 3 parts:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

Dr. Terry Mortenson from Answers in Genesis, like most people, grew up in an education system that taught evolution as fact. During his first year in university and shortly after becoming a Christian, he began to see the fallacy of the idea of billions of years of evolution.

With a Ph.D. in the history of geology from the University of Coventry in England, Dr Mortenson has been studying and speaking on the creation-evolution controversy throughout North America and Europe since the late 1970s. He also holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Mortenson is now a full time speaker and research scientist for AIG.

Read Dr. Mortenson's blog.

Much of his M.Div. studies focused on various (Biblical, historical and philosophical) aspects of this subject. His Ph.D. thesis analyzed the origins of old-earth geology in the early 19th century and particularly the writings of the 'scriptural geologists', a group of scientists and non-scientists who wrote Biblical, geological and philosophical arguments against these budding old-earth theories. Through study and personal interaction he has been exposed to the many different Christian and non-Christian responses to this controversy. All of this study and teaching has deepened his conviction of the literal truth and foundational importance of Genesis 1-11.
