#CreationDebate: Eric Hovind (#Christian) vs Bernie Dehler (#atheist) #Evidence & #Morality

On Thur. Nov. 15, 2011, Eric Hovind, President of Creation Today, (Christian, Young Earth Creationist) & Bernie Dehler (atheist, former evangelical Christian) held a debate at Portland State University, sponsored by one of the university's Christian groups. There were two main topics: evidence and morality.

The session on "evidence" dealt with questions about the "unknowns" in science, especially regarding origins. How did the universe begin to exist? How did biological life arise from non-life. If scientists can't answer these questions, does it logically follow that God did these things by miracle?

Regarding morality, Hovind presented the idea that morality seems to exist in the world as moral law, and asked "who created these laws, if not God? How could mindless nature create moral laws?" Dehler's take was that morality can largely be reasoned-out using the rubric of consequentialism, reciprocity, and consideration of individual freedom. Hovind wiped the floor with this guy.

Dehler had a hand-out for the audience, showing his main points and also giving links for further suggested research. Click here to see his handout.

Eric Hovind - #Evolution is Based on Lies | Eric Hovind's presentation given 11/16/2012 at Clark College in Vancouver, WA. He is heckled by an ignorant evolutionist at times, but handles it in stride.

Eric Hovind grew up immersed in the world of apologetics and following college graduation in 1999, he began full-time ministry. President and Founder of Pensacola-based organization, Creation Today, Eric’s passion to reach people with the life-changing message of the Gospel has driven him to speak in five foreign countries and all fifty states. He lives in Pensacola, Florida with his wife Tanya and three children and remains excited about the tremendous opportunity to lead an apologetics ministry in the war against evolution and humanism. Much like a 21st-century Apostle Paul on Mars Hill, in June of 2013, Eric stood on the first monument to atheism in America to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the atheist community.

In 2011, Eric teamed up with Paul Taylor to begin The Creation Today Show. More than 72 episodes are broadcasting on three continents equipping thousands to continue battling the anti-Christ, anti-Bible spirit that consumes today’s culture with the absolute truth of God’s Word, beginning in Genesis.

Their website reaches 260 countries and passes the ultimate success test measured in transformed lives. Under Eric’s leadership, creation materials are now translated into 42 languages and the Creation Todayteam is blessed to receive hundreds of testimonies each year from those who lives have been impacted for eternity. Many highlights from these testimony letters can be read on the website, as 2012 brought a record-number of letter from every inhabitable continent on the globe.

Creation Today is also in the midst of producing the most ambitious project they have ever undertaken - Genesis 3D. This project will depict the first three chapters of Genesis in full stereoscopic 3D animation, intertwining interviews with leading scientists.  Rivaling anything on Discovery or History Channel, the theatrical projected release of Chapter One is 2014. Pioneering this work as just one of their many endeavors, Eric and the Creation Today team’s mission remains steadfast: impact the world to KNOW their creator—GOD and DEFEND their faith in Him!

The Ica Burial Stones of Peru by Stan Lutz

The Ica Burial Stones of PeruThe Ica Burial Stones of Peru

by Stan Lutz

The Ica stones are a collection of over fifteen thousand carved stones discovered in the vicinity of Ica, Peru. The Ica stones display images ranging from dinosaurs to telescopes to open-heart surgery. The images on the stones were apparently created in pre-Columbian times and buried in a large number of tombs alongside Native American mummies. These stones were first written about by Spanish priests in 1575!

This video file is a 60 minute seminar by Stan Lutz that was recorded during the Seattle Creation Conference, October 2009.

About the Speaker:

Stan Lutz has been to Peru and seen many of the burial sites and stones of Ica. The stones indicate that ancient man knew what dinosaurs looked like. They show man had very high degrees of technology. Mr. Lutz has been to the Cabrera Museum in Ica, Peru where there are over 11,000 stones. He has flown over the Nazca Lines and photographed many of the features that show their relationship to the stones. He has been to many of the ruins and has seen firsthand the superior technology of the ancient Peruvians.

Origin of Life - Mike Riddle

In this presentation Mike discusses why the origin of life is a major problem for people holding to a belief in evolution. By showing that there is no scientific evidence for how life could start by naturalistic processes it must ultimately be accepted by faith. Mike also talks about the fact that the teaching of evolution has replaced the teaching of good science in classrooms. Mike finishes by reading from Scripture (Romans 1:19-20) to show that God has given all the evidence for believing in a Creator God and no one has an excuse for not believing.

Astronomy, the Big Bang and Comets - Dr. Danny Faulkner with Mike Riddle

Astronomy and the Big Bang

In this session Mike interviews Dr. Danny Faulkner (Ph.D. Astronomy) from Answers in Genesis. Dr. Faulkner answers many questions that Christians need to understand about the Big Bang which includes: "Is the Big Bang compatible with the Bible?", "How scientific is the Big Bang?", "What are some of the major problems with the Big Bang?", and why we should start with the Bible, which has never changed, as our authority.

Astronomy and Comets

In this video Danny Faulkner (Ph.D. Astronomy) answers the following questions.
  • What are comets?
  • What makes up a comet?
  • How do comets differ from meteors?
  • How fast do comets travel?
  • Why are comets good evidence for a young earth and solar system?

Darwinism Under the Microscope - Lessons From History · Sylvia Baker

Presented at Edinburgh Creation Group | With the rise of genetics and molecular biology, evidence is emerging that Darwinism is not the unlimited process we once thought.

Sylvia Baker is a biology graduate of the University of Sussex and the University of London. She accepted the evolutionary theory put to her at school and at university - until the pressure of evidence forced her to rethink the whole question.

Finch beaks point to a Creator who Provides - Jean K. Lightner

Finches have been identified as part of a created kind that has diversified considerably since the Flood of Noah’s time.1 They are well known for their variation in beak size and shape. These differences in beak morphology between various species of finches are associated with differences in diet. It appears that these differences have played an important role in allowing birds to fill numerous ecological niches around the world.

Already Gone - Why your kids will quit #church and what you can do to stop it - Ken Ham

 Already Gone

Why your kids will quit church and what you can do to stop it

Written by Britt Beemer , Todd Hillard and Ken Ham

The next generation is calling it quits on the traditional church. And it’s not just happening on the nominal fringe; it’s happening at the core of the faith!  This powerful book reveals shocking trends and offers wisdom on how to win back our families, our churches, and our world!

Statistics reveal a huge disconnect taking place between our children and their church experience

Nationwide polls and denominational reports are showing that the next generation is calling it quits on the traditional church. And it’s not just happening on the nominal fringe; it’s happening at the core of the faith.
In the first scientific study of its kind, the “Beemer Report” reveals startling facts discovered through 20,000 phone calls and detailed surveys of a thousand 20–29 year olds who used to attend evangelical churches on a regular basis, but have since left it behind.
The results are shocking:
  • Those who faithfully attend Sunday School are more likely to leave the church than those who do not.
  • Those who regularly attend Sunday School are more likely to believe that the Bible is less true.
  • Those who regularly attend Sunday School are actually more likely to defend that abortion and gay marriage should be legal.
  • Those who regularly attend Sunday School are actually more likely to defend premarital sex.
In this powerful book, popular author Ken Ham and consumer behavior research/analyst C. Britt Beemer combine to reveal trends that must be dealt with now . . . before we lose another generation!
The trends are frightening, but Already Gone shows how to win back our families, our churches, and our world!
